Study English More Convenient
Hi, guys, I'm Nouhaila from Speaking English With Noha and in this lesson, I’m gonna share with you some English-learning hacks.
Study English More Convenient |
Maybe you couldn't watch a movie in English without subtitles or maybe you don't understand one of my lessons. You may have spent the whole year saving enough money to enroll in a language school and are now planning to start at the end of January. You may have spoken to an English-speaking person to register for a language school and are now planning to start at the end of January. Perhaps you have spoken with an English speaker and have never done so before. Maybe you took your lELTS from seven to eight. Just tell me something you're proud of in English.
You can also add something that has been quite difficult for you this year. And if it's something I can help you with, let me know.
Maximize your study habits
The first is: maximize your learning time. What does that mean? It means making the most of the time you have. Take advantage of the time available in your week and make the most of your study time. We all have different hours to spend learning a language, don't we?
We all have different priorities, so when it comes to studying English, you have to focus on the time you have, on what you have. The amount of realistic time you have. Don't think that you're going to study 20 hours a week when you have a very demanding job and you have to take care of young children, it just won't happen. What time did you actually study English?
Whatever that amount is, we must maximize it, make the most of it. So, to do this, I strongly recommend that you write your own study plan. Now, that sounds serious, doesn't it? Well, it is!
If you have not made the progress you wanted to make with your English this year or if you feel a little lost in what you should study, it is likely that you are not spending enough time on it or not studying the right things or you are not doing it in the most effective way. You are not maximizing the time you have to study.
Now, a study plan will help you with that. This will help you to practice the right things and make them more consistent. It therefore becomes a habit, integrate it into your daily life.
Here's a very quick clue. If you monitor until the end of this lesson, in the bonus section, I will show you exactly how to create your own personalized study plan.
Now, if the best you can do is to study for thirty minutes a day, that's fine. In fact, it's great! That's really good! But make sure you commit to it and make sure it is in your schedule. This is the scheduled time of the study.
But what about the accidental study time? Extra time you may have where you may study. Maybe spending time on a bus, for example. So what can you do?
Practical in your head
You can practice in your head all the time. If you haven't practiced thinking in English this year, 2019 is the year to do it.
Now, if you watch this video and understand most of it without subtitles, your level of English is probably at least intermediate and that means you have the words and vocabulary to express your ideas in English, just familiarize yourself with them. And even if it is not always easy and practical to speak aloud, you are under pressure, but you can also think regularly in English. And you can do it yourself, at any time. It doesn't matter.
Now I agree that thinking all day long with another language requires a lot of work and determination. So start small, start with an hour and then two. Be sure to take a break. I am still learning to speak Spanish, so for me, this task is painful! It's slow, it's frustrating, it's really tiring. I always end the day with the feeling that my head has exploded and I start mixing English and Spanish, then a few other random languages that I have learned in the past. At the end of the day, you will feel like your brain has been fried. At least I'm doing it.
But that's exactly how you must feel. Exhaustion, confusion and the feeling of reaching your learning limit every day mean that you have done an extraordinary job.
All right, compare that to going to the gym. Have you ever felt really fit after going to the gym every day for six weeks? You feel fantastic and look great. But then you have a little rash. You're going on vacation, maybe you stop training because you're injured, whatever. You gain a few pounds and the thought of going back to the gym is suddenly terrifying. You know it's gonna hurt, right? Because you don't practice every day, it's been a while and it's exactly the same when you learn English.
This brings me back to my previous point about coherence. Create a routine to ensure that you spend regular time practicing English. It doesn't matter how much time you have and how consistent you are when you study. And even if it takes a lot of work and personal motivation to start thinking all day long in English, it will soon become a habit. This will happen naturally and constantly.
Have a good night.
If you go to bed every night with your brain on fire, because you have been practicing English all day, it is very important to sleep well at night. This helps your brain to work efficiently. Now, that sounds pretty basic, doesn't it? But it's simple. A good night's sleep will improve your concentration and your ability to think clearly.
In fact, a healthy and clean diet will also help. If you wake up with a hangover because you've been drinking and dancing all night. You're probably not going to jump out of bed to practice English, are you? The New Year is an exception however, you can take me as a day off to celebrate. But can you honestly say that you regularly get a good night's sleep?
If you don't get enough sleep, your brain is a little confused, right? You have trouble thinking about problems and concentrating. Not to mention you, you look like a zombie. In addition, there is another more serious reason why sleep is important. Memory consolidation occurs while you are sleeping. Yeah.
What does that mean? When we wake up, we acquire memories or create new ones. We learn things, we see things, we study things. Sometimes we forget these things in an instant and others become permanently anchored in our minds. Now, we believe that this process happens while we are asleep.
Thus, memories - the things we learn, become stabilized or more permanent in our brain so that we can access and use this information in the future. Thus, all the new words and grammar you learn in English every day stabilize in your brain during your sleep. So if you don't sleep well, you may not remember all the new things you learned during the day.
So, what I mean above all is that you don't lose your hard work and study, do you? Give priority to a good night's sleep as often as you can.
Ask for help
Now, I understand, it can be embarrassing, embarrassing, uncomfortable to make a mistake when you're trying to communicate in English, right? It is difficult to admit that you need help. I wish I didn't need to ask for help in Spanish and that I knew it. But I don't
But you know what? Asking someone for help when you are in the middle of a troubled conversation is the perfect time. Most people are happy to help you improve your English.
Practice these questions so that they come out naturally. Most people will be happy to help you and if they are not, continue. You don't need that in your life, put it behind you and keep going, stay focused on your goal. Unfortunately, there are grumpy people all around us. Do I let him keep me from coming here every week to teach you? Not at all. They're not going to arrest me! They don't bother me.
Use what you have learned
Now that you have learned all these new words and phrases, you must then use what you have learned. Maximizing your study time, constantly thinking in English, sleeping well and asking others for help are all great ways to improve and improve your English, but the most important thing is to take what you have learned and use it yourself.
Passive learning, memorization, all of these could be an excellent way to learn a new vocabulary. You can do this by reading books and watching movies. Thinking in English is a great way to practice fluent self-control, but memorizing and thinking for yourself can only take you far. What we really, really want to do in 2019 is find a way to help you practice and make it part of your routine.
If you do not live in an English-speaking country and you cannot practice many people around you, do not worry. There are still so many different ways to practice using your English on a daily basis. So you can search for an online community where non-native speakers practice with each other.
And there are so many groups like this one online. Most cities have weekly meetings. Maybe at the local café where people meet to practice their English. Even if you are in a non-English speaking country, there are still others around you who are trying to learn English. So finding them just takes a quick Google search. You may want to hire a tutor online or a person to practice speaking and pronunciation.
One of my favorite activities is to write a journal, to keep track of everything you did during your day in English. So practice writing sentences using the new words you have encountered during the day. You will see so much progress in your language if you practice regularly, usually. Make it a priority.
All right, this all!
