Hi guys, I'm Nouhaila from Speaking English With Nouha and in today’s lesson, I’m gonna show you some when to use each of good and well.
GOOD Vs WELL |
These simple but very common words can cause quite a few headaches for English learners. Their meaning is very similar, but they are not used in the same way. It's easy to confuse them! So this lesson will be short and enjoyable, but we will get to the bottom of it.
To confuse the words "good" and "well" is a very common English mistake. There are now clear rules that can help you use them correctly, but there are also exceptions that probably leave you a little confused. The most useful thing to keep in mind is that "good" is an adjective and "well" is an adverb. These are two different parts of the speech. A quick reminder. Adjectives can change nouns or tell us more about a noun. So, "good" changes a name.
Something can be good.
A good person.
A good day.
A good game.
All of these things.
Now as an adverb, ‘well’ modifies a verb. An action can be done well, right?
She looks very well.
I have eaten well.
In both examples,'well' modifies the verb. Now, nine times out of ten, most of the time, the question you have to ask yourself is this: do I change a name or an action?
And it will help you make the right choice between "good" and "well". Nice!

But now I have to mention an important exception to this rule: "good" is the adjective and "good" is the adverb because when you talk about health, the quality of someone's health, "good" can be used as an adjective.
So if someone is fine, it means they are healthy.
My sister is well.
Is your father well?
